Lange Zeit hörte man gar nichts mehr von Aitmatow, „Der Schneeleopard“ ist Aitmatows neustes Werk. In diesem Roman zeigt er auf, wie zwei Welten aufeinander prallen.
Anhand des Schneeleopardens, der in den Bergen Kirgisiens lebt zeigt Aitmatow, wie das Alte dem Neuen Platz machen muss- wie die Tradition nicht mehr trägt.
